The ANU's Council approved a name change for the Freilich Foundation in December 2018. The Foundation will now be known as The Herbert & Valmae Freilich Project for the Study of Bigotry. 

Why has the Foundation changed its name?
The name change brings our organisation in line with recent changes to ANU internal policies and legislation relating to the management of philanthropic funds. 

Will the mission of the Foundation change as well? 
No. The Freilich Project will support research into the causes, the histories and the effects of ethnic, cultural, religious and sexual bigotry and animosity. It will also promote public discussion of how such intolerance can be combatted - and co-existence promoted - through a range of programs including the long-running Alice Tay and Freilich annual public lectures and the ECR Small Grant Scheme.

Are there any advantages to the name change? 
Staff and board members have been discussing the possibility of including the focus of the Foundation's work--namely, research into bigotry--in the name of the Foundation for some time. Changing the name provides us with the opportunity to do this.

Have the contact details for the Freilich Foundation / Project changed? 
Please direct email correspondence to Freilich.Project@anu.edu.au. Our social media and website addresses remain current, though titles been been updated to reflect the name change. New subscriptions to our mailing list are always welcome, but there is no need to re-subscribe if you previously received emails from the Foundation.
