Zines and social justice
13 January 2022
For many years, zines have been a means for diverse and often disadvantaged people to reject mainstream and technological modes of publication and communication in favour of low-fi, hand-made print. Dave Emmerson is the writer and producer of the Visions series of zines. In May 2021, he spoke with Dr Ibrahim Abraham, Research Fellow at the ANU Humanities Research Centre and former convenor of the Freilich Project. They discussed the history of zines, their subversive potential, and the role they have to play in advocating for social justice and political activism.
